General
Witness the contrasting grandeurs of the two Siam dynasties. Bangkok is now one of the world’s cosmopolitans with historic backdrops and stunning art and architecture. Ayutthaya is the yesteryear regime with beautiful ruins underlying its glorious past which will intrigue any visitors.
Bangkok was established as the capital of the Siam Kingdom in 1782. King Rama the first aimed to make the city as glorious as Ayutthaya had ever been. You can see clear evidence of this when you visit the old Bangkok (called Rattanakosin island). The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Pho are all stunning sights, all richly elaborated and one of their kinds.
Move back further in the history of Siam, you will meet the kingdom of Ayutthaya. It was a great city, said to be on the same scale of London or Paris in its peak. It was burnt down from the Burmese invasion in 1767. Today Ayutthaya is a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and its small island (surrounded by rivers) is still packed with beautiful temple ruins.
This tour is designed for you to see the contrast fortunes of the two great cities, both beautiful but perhaps rendering different perspectives.
